Design and Properties of a Novel Family of Nonionic Biobased Furanic Hydroxyester and Amide Surfactants

A series of original amphiphiles prepared by Morita–Baylis–Hillman (MBH) coupling biobased furanic aldehydes with hydrophobic alkenes is explored. Structural variations result from the level polarity on substrate, type activated (ester amide), alkyl chain length, and presence an unsaturation. The physicochemical properties such as Krafft point, critical micellar concentration (CMC), hydrophilic lipophilic behavior determined PIT-slope method have been glucosyloxymethyl furfural (GMF) derivatives exhibit higher water solubility than succinyl hydroxymethyl (SMF) HMF-derived ones. Saturation acrylic linkage results in slightly lower CMC for GMF-derived compounds enhanced solvation As expected, increasing length diminishes solubility, CMC, hydrophilicity. decreasing surfactants follows: Gi > GiH HSi.
